Strategy Workshop – Building a clear strategic foundation for leadership teams

In this workshop, the leadership team develops a shared strategic direction, clear guiding principles, and focused priorities for the years ahead. The outcomes provide orientation for decision making and a common foundation for execution.

The purpose of the workshop is to create a strategy that is jointly owned by the leadership team. This includes developing a shared strategic direction as well as clear strategic principles and initiatives. These elements guide future decisions and form the basis for annual objectives and concrete execution steps.

Structure and flow of the Strategy Workshop

Preparation

Preparation includes a focused briefing with the executive leadership and a review of relevant materials that describe the current situation. In this phase, the thematic priorities are aligned to ensure the workshop is clearly focused and outcome driven.

Day 1 – Understanding the current situation and defining the strategic direction

On the first day, the leadership team reviews the current situation, assesses key challenges and opportunities, and builds a shared understanding of where the organization stands. Based on this analysis, the team develops a strategic direction for the coming years that clearly defines ambition and intent.

Day 2 – Strategic principles, initiatives, and execution

On the second day, the strategic direction is translated into clear guiding principles, prioritized initiatives, and concrete objectives for the coming year. The session concludes with agreement on next steps, including responsibilities and a high level implementation timeline.

Follow up

After the workshop, participants receive a structured summary of the outcomes. If desired, we support implementation through short reflection and alignment sessions to review progress, capture learnings, and sharpen next steps.

Outcomes for your leadership team

1. A shared strategic direction

The leadership team leaves with a jointly developed strategic direction that clearly describes where the organization is heading over the coming years and provides consistent orientation.

2. Clear strategic alignment

Strategic principles offer a reliable reference point for day to day decisions and clarify which topics truly matter over time.

3. Prioritized initiatives and annual objectives

Key initiatives for the coming years are clearly defined and prioritized. Annual objectives are logically derived from the strategy and provide a focused framework for operational planning.

4. Clear next steps

The team has a transparent overview of next steps, including responsibilities and timing. This supports a smooth transition into execution and creates visibility on progress.

Michael Gobran – Managing Partner, GOBRAN®

“Strategies rarely fail because they are conceptually weak. They fail because leadership teams operate with different priorities, standards, or mental models. When everyone works from a different internal picture, the organization loses direction. The critical step is to establish a shared foundation before discussing initiatives or actions.”
